Management

Dr. Justin Wiseman

Dr. Justin Wiseman, President & CEO,
joined Prosolia in 2007 as Director of Research and Development. Dr. Wiseman earned a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Purdue University in 2006. His Ph.D. research was conducted under the guidance of Dr. R. Graham Cooks, Purdue's Henry Bohn Haas Distinguished Professor of Analytical Chemistry, and involved the conception and development of desorption electrospray ionization (DESI) and its application to biological tissue imaging. Dr. Wiseman is a co-inventor of DESI and is the author of numerous scientific publications, patents, and presentations on the subject of ambient mass spectrometry. While at Purdue, Dr. Wiseman's research was funded by a National Science Foundation (NSF) Fellowship. He received a certificate in Applied Management through the Krannert School of Management and was the recipient of Schering Plough's Science and Innovation Award in 2006. Prior to pursing his Ph.D. at Purdue, Dr. Wiseman spent 2.5 years at Eli Lilly and Company as an associate analytical chemist in Parenteral Quality Control.

Dr. Brian Laughlin

Dr. Brian Laughlin, Vice President, Engineering,
joined Prosolia in 2005 as a Senior Scientist and became Director of Product Development in 2008. Dr. Laughlin earned a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry at Purdue University in 2005, working under the guidance of Dr. R. Graham Cooks, Purdue's Henry Bohn Haas Distinguished Professor of Analytical Chemistry. His thesis research involved the design and construction of several mass spectrometers, including miniaturized and high throughput instruments. While at Purdue, Dr. Laughlin received fellowship support from numerous sources. He has published research results in several journals as well as presented at scientific conferences.

Board of Directors

Steve Mogensen

Steve Mogensen, Chairman, is currently the Managing Director for the Alfred E. Mann Institute at Purdue University. Mr. Mogensen graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a B.S. degree in Marketing. Mr. Mogensen's professional experience includes 20+ years in the medical device industry including 11 plus years with Smiths Medical, a leading global supplier of medical devices. Mr. Mogensen was President and Co-Founder of Advanced Clinical Services, Inc., a high frequency ultrasound services provider. He was also part of the management team that created MedSource Technologies in 1999 by acquiring 7 companies in one day and eventually taking MedSource public in February 2002. Most recently Mr. Mogensen was the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Enpath Medical, a publically traded company based in Minneapolis and a part of the senior management team which completed the successful sale of the company to Greatbatch Inc. in June, 2007.

Dr. R. Graham Cook

Dr. R. Graham Cooks, Director, is a Co-Founder of Prosolia, Inc. and Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at Purdue University. Prof. Cooks is a world-renowned expert in mass spectrometry theory and implementation. He was instrumental in the formation of Griffin Analytical Technologies, LLC (a subsidiary of Flir Technologies). Prof. Cooks received a Ph.D. at the University of Natal (Kwa Zulu-Natal) Pietermaritzburg and also from Cambridge University, UK.. His interests involve construction of mass spectrometers as well as studies of their fundamentals and applications. He was a pioneer in the conception and implementation of MS/MS and of the desorption ionization, especially matrix-based SIMS methods. These interests led to the construction of miniature ion trap mass spectrometers and their application to problems of trace chemical detection. Prof. Cooks' work on ionization methods has contributed to the field of Ambient Mass Spectrometry, in which the principal method is desorption electrospray ionization (DESI). Applications of DESI in tissue monitoring, forensics and in pharmaceutical applications are a major current activity. Graham Cooks is a past President of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry. He has been honored by numerous awards from the American Chemical Society and other organizations and is one of the top 100 most highly cited chemists.

Edward Chait

Edward Chait, Director, is currently an independent consultant in the Life Sciences. Dr. Chait received an A.B. degree in Chemistry from Cornell University in 1964 and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Purdue University in 1968. He was most recently Chief Business Officer of Bioanalytical Systems, Inc., West Lafayette, IN, a Contract Research Organization providing drug development services and innovative instruments to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. At BASI he was responsible for all of the company's Commercial Operations. Prior to joining BASI in 2005, Dr. Chait, was the CEO of Spectral Genomics, Houston, TX, an emerging, innovative company pioneering cytogenetic analysis with nucleic acid arrays. Spectral was purchased by Perkin-Elmer in May, 2006. Dr. Chait was CEO of PharmaCore, Inc. in High Point, NC, a small molecule drug discovery company providing molecular building blocks, custom organic synthesis and GMP services to biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies from 2001-2003. Dr. Chait began his career at Du Pont where for 23 years, he held positions of increasing responsibility in R&D, sales and marketing and became Director of Licensing and Acquisitions for the Biotechnology and Diagnostics Division of the Company. In this role, he initiated DuPont's genetics instruments business and negotiated licenses for DuPont technology with other companies. Earlier, he managed the DuPont mass spectrometer instrument business. After leaving DuPont, Dr. Chait became Sr. VP, Business and Technology Development at Intergen Company, Purchase, NY. At Intergen, an innovator and manufacturer of biochemicals and research products, he implemented a program of strategic acquisitions, growing Intergen over a decade until Serologicals Corporation acquired it. He has also served on the Visiting Committee of NIST, the US Israel Technology Commission of the Department of Commerce, and the Advisory Board of the Purdue University Cancer Center. He is a member of the Board of Directors of three biotechnology companies.
